Capacity Building Workshop Nicosia
- 28.10.2025
The second MATCH Capacity Building Workshop (CBW) takes place in Nicosia from November 2 to 4, 2025, marking the next stage of the programme’s unfolding dialogue between culture, ecology, and collective responsibility. Following the inaugural gathering in Athens, this workshop brings together artists, partners, and local practitioners in the Gardens of the Future—a 2022 New European Bauhaus Prize winner that has transformed an abandoned cluster of homes in the heart of Old Nicosia into a thriving community and cultural space.
Set within the divided landscape of Cyprus’s capital, the workshop offers a vital context for exploring how cultural and artistic practices can respond to the climate crisis while acknowledging the island’s complex histories of colonisation, displacement, and resilience. Participants will share learning, strengthen collaborations, and situate their work within broader environmental and civic frameworks.
A highlight of the Nicosia CBW is its public programme, From Global Responsibilities to Municipal Planning, taking place on November 3 at the Gardens of the Future. This open session brings together artists, policymakers, and representatives from the New European Bauhaus, Creative Europe, and the Municipality of Nicosia to discuss how culture can shape municipal approaches to climate action. Framing Nicosia as both a site of historical complexity and contemporary regeneration, the event bridges global frameworks with local realities, reaffirming MATCH’s commitment to culture as a catalyst for sustainability, dialogue, and community-led change.
