During a residency in Nicosia, artists Christina Zambulaki and Caterina Miralles developed their project Earth-bound Exercises as part of the MATCH joint residency programme, hosted at the Gardens of the Future. Through field visits, guided sessions, and exchanges with local experts and community members, the artists engaged with Cyprus’s cultural, ecological, and post-extractive landscapes.

A site visit to Skouriotissa Mine, alongside explorations of surrounding forests and agricultural land, informed their research, which combined field recording, point-cloud mapping, organism-based studies, and experimental water-collection devices to propose non-extractive, ecologically attentive ways of working with land.

The residency concluded with a public Open Studio, where the artists shared their work-in-progress with local audiences, situating their practice within Cyprus’s wider environmental and socio-political contexts.
